Small Gods – First Person View, New UI, Spellcasting, and bugfixing.

Since my last update, I’ve been a little busy with other things in life but I’ve found the time to fix an assortment of bugs and add some new features to the game.

In regards to bugs I have:

  • Replaced the radial menu I had currently with a menu from the same asset set I downloaded. As such, continuing to hold the joystick no longer causes the selection system to flip back and forth between the button you want and the one opposite it.
  • Replaced the previous system of restoring energy where AI would have their energy restored by walking through a trigger at their house. Now they go to their house and wait for a period of time determined by how tired they are.
  • Replaced the previous system of restoring food where AI would have their food level restored by walking through a trigger at a food source object. Now they go to their house and wait for a period of time determined by how hungry they are.

One of the new features I’ve added is a first person mode accessible via the spells menu. Selecting this spell will spawn an avatar for the player at the location they’re looking at and grant them control over the avatar. While it can’t do anything other than run around I plan to retain this feature as it’s interesting to watch the AI worshippers at work. Also, I will need to fix the controls for the avatar as controlling it is a little clunky, but it’s fine for now.

Another new feature I’ve added is a spell selection and casting system. Right now the player can only successfully cast the avatar spell, but a fireball, lightning bolt, and meteor spell are 90% in place (I just need to make prefabs for them).

Sometime in the next week, I plan to add a mana generation system to the game (built off of the existing worker and building types), and I’ll make it so that casting spells costs mana.
